Customer Service and Support
iFreelance offers customer support only via email using an online form; a “contact” icon on every page can be used to access it. iFreelance promises a response to queries within 24 hours of their receipt during normal customer service hours, which are 6 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday Pacific (US) time. I have not had the opportunity to use iFreelance’s customer support myself.
iFreelance doesn’t provide much detail in terms of its policies, so it’s difficult to make absolute pronouncements in this area. However, I believe the company is able to avoid a lot of problems related to ethics and enforcement simply by virtue of its business model. For example, many sites have problems with clients and contractors who try to cheat by taking work off-site to avoid transaction fees, but iFreelance has no such fees. Similarly, there is no need on iFreelance to try to get around the minimum bids that other sites impose, because they don’t exist here.
I can only give you subjective impressions here, but those are that iFreelance’s community is primarily above average in quality. Most of the provider profiles I look at suggest that they are owned by serious freelancers, many of whom are using iFreelance as a way to network and get clients to supplement their own offline businesses.
The distribution of freelancers is tilted heavily towards those in the artistic field. Of the roughly 4,200 paid profiles on the site, 30% are in the Graphic Design area, which makes sense given around that proportion of projects are in Graphic Design. However, a whopping 640 profiles can also be found in “Traditional Art (Illustration / Painting)” category, despite there being only a handful of projects in that area. About 20% of profiles are in Writing, while only around 6% are for programmers (versus some 20% of projects).
There does not appear to be any sort of peer-to-peer forum for iFreelance users.
