Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. I don't want to go to a pay-only model like some sites, but when more and more people block ads, I end up working for free. And I have a family to support, just like you. :)

Please think about the value you get from this free site, and consider adding it to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on freelancingguide.net". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@||freelancingguide.net^$document". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely, Charles Kozierok

Elance - Freelancer Community Characteristics
(Page 2 of 3)

Geographical Distribution

Elance also makes it possible to examine its providers by gross geographical location. This information is summarized in Figure 4.

Figure 4: Elance Community by Location

Almost half of Elance’s providers are listed as being North America, and a little under a quarter are in southern Asia.

I have to admit to being mainly surprised here by the percentage of contractors who are located in North America; I figured it would much smaller. The second peak in south Asia was not a surprise, but that number being half the size of the number of contractors in Canada and the United States was a bit of an eye-opener.

Of course, I must remind you that these figures represent everyone who has ever signed up at Elance, and a large percentage of these are no longer active. I don’t have any way of filtering this information to get a snapshot of how active providers are distributed.
